America Makes announced two special-project calls on behalf of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Manufacturing Technology Division. The special-project topics are Powder Bed Fusion of Thermoplastics Closed-loop Process Control and Open Source Process Control for Powder Bed AM Research.

All proposal teams’ members must be America Makes members. Teams will have six weeks to develop their proposals, which will be evaluated according to technical criteria with winning proposals selected by the America Makes team and AFRL.

Event will focus on growth, job changes

On Aug. 5, the Regional Chamber will host the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland’s vice president and senior regional officer at the Pittsburgh branch, Guhan Venkatu, to discuss growth and employment changes across the Reserve Bank’s major metropolitan statistical areas — particularly the Youngstown/Warren MSA — during the recession and the recovery. The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. The cost is $25 per chamber member and $35 for non-chamber members.

Advanced reservations requested by Thursday. Cancellations received thereafter will be billed.

Appreciation lunch

The Carousel Center, owned and operated by RaeArc Industries, will have a five-year appreciation luncheon Aug. 22 to show recognition to members and businesses in the community who have helped the business grow. The event will take place at the workshop, 80 Westchester Drive, Austintown, at 10:30 a.m. The center cares for individuals with developmental disabilities.

National Bancshares reports net income

ORRVILLE, ohio

National Bancshares Corp., the holding company for First National Bank, reported record net income of $1,427,000 for the quarter that ended June 30, an increase from $1,018,000 over the same period in 2013. Earnings per share were $0.64 for the three months ended June 30, compared with $0.46 for the same period in 2013. Diluted earnings per share were $0.63 for the second quarter of 2014, compared with $0.46 for the same period in 2013.

Farmers Market Week

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack declared Aug. 3-9, 2014, “National Farmers Market Week.” Throughout the week, USDA will celebrate the nation’s thousands of farmers markets, farmers who make them possible and the communities that host them.

The declaration was made via an official proclamation signed by Vilsack. This year marks the 15th annual National Farmers Market Week recognizing the role that farmers markets have in the agricultural and food economy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture began declaring National Farmers Market Week in 2000.
