VIENNA
Dr. Renee Markovich of Uniontown and her parents, Richard and Carol Markovich of Vienna, have been named the 2014 Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Philanthropists of the Year.
Dr. Brian Bachelder, award nominator, commented on the Markovich family’s yearly contributions to the OAFP Foundation and community.
He said Dr. Markovich “routinely goes the extra mile in securing donations for the silent auction. Her enthusiasm is contagious and always seems to bring in more money from donors. If her energy doing foundation work could be bottled, we would have an unlimited source for generations to come.”
Dr. Markovich, a graduate of Mathews High School, where she played softball and volleyball, served on the OAFP Foundation Board of Trustees as a member from 2008-11 and was chairwoman of the board from Jan. 1, 2012, to Dec. 31, 2013.
Her extended family’s contribution over the years has been exemplary, Dr. Bachelder added. Her father served on the OAFP Foundation board of trustees from 2002 to 2004.
Dr. Markovich is a past president of OAFP and a member since 1997. Her parents have been continuous donors of money and time to the foundation since 2001.
She has been practicing family medicine for 17 years and has been clinical associate director at the Akron General Center for Family Medicine Residency Program since December 2009.
She is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and received her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown in 1994.
Dr. Markovich and her partner, Donna Donaldson, live in Uniontown.
The Markovich family will be recognized during the 2014 OAFP Members Assembly Awards Dinner on Saturday.
