Maker City event is next Sunday in downtown Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Maker City kickoff event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at America Makes’ headquarters in downtown Youngstown 236 W. Boardman St.

The family event is open to the public, and will feature local hobbyists and makers, 3-D printer demonstrations, and tours of the America Makes facility.

Additionally, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, will be present to announce the official Maker City Pledge, outlining the city’s plans to support the local maker movement.

The kickoff will conclude a string of private events hosted by America Makes for Make: Magazine, including a “3D Printer Shootout.”

The Youngstown Maker City Initiative effort has been led by America Makes, with support from Ryan, Youngstown Business Incubator, Mahoning County commissioners, the county’s convention and visitors bureau, the city of Youngstown, and others.

The public can register for free tickets to the open house kickoff on America Makes’ website — www.AmericaMakes.us — or by calling 330-259-7644.
