Three Scrappers pitchers combine to blank ‘Cutters

Center fielder Bradley Zimmer went 3-for-5 with two RBIs as the Mahoning Valley Scrappers shut out the Williamsport Crosscutters 7-0 Friday night in New York-Penn League action at Bowman Stadium.

Jordan Carter picked up his first win for the Scrappers, tossing three and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and striking out in relief. Scrappers starter Kieran Lovegrove pitched three and one-third innings, giving up one hit. Jose Zapata pitched the last two innings and struck out three. The Crosscutters managed only two hits. Scoring with an RBI single from first baseman Leo Castillo in the first, the Scrappers (17-24) plated six runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away from the Crosscutters (21-20).

Greg Allen started the rally by reaching base on an error. Austin Fisher, Zimmer and Castillo all followed with hits. Josh McAdams added an RBI single, driving in Castillo. McAdams and Martin scored on a throwing error by Crosscutters first baseman Rhys Hoskins to end the scoring.

Allen scored two runs and walked for the Scrappers. Castillo added two hits and two RBIs while Fisher contributed two hits and an RBI.

Crosscutters pitcher Alejandro Arteaga took the loss, going six innings, allowing seven hits and one run.

The Scrappers will play the Crosscutters tonight at 7:05.
