WARREN

The 5th annual Panera Bread High School Soccer Classic will take place today and Sunday at Warren JFK High School.

There are 57 games scheduled over the two-day tournament that will be played on three fields at Warren JFK’s Upper Campus.

“It’s grown pretty much through word of mouth over the years,” tournament organizer Rob Merlo said. “Coaches like it because it’s a competitive environment for their kids.”

Games are scheduled to begin today at 8 a.m. and Sunday at noon. The girls championship game is set for Sunday at 4:10 p.m., with the boys championship following.

“There’s a lot of work that goes into the event,” Merlo said. “We get a lot of volunteer help from the parents at Warren JFK and a lot of help from other parents and coaches that participate.”

Girls teams participating are Hickory, Poland Blue, South Range, Ursuline, Howland, Lakeview, Hubbard, Warren JFK, Edgewood and Poland White.

The boys teams are Warren Blue, Niles, Bristol, Ursuline Green, Warren JFK, Labrae, Newton Falls, Ursuline Gold and Warren White.

“I can’t thank the Covelli family enough for their support of this event,” Merlo said.
