YOUNGSTOWN

A woman was charged with driving under suspension after police say a car she was trying to move instead plowed into an East Side apartment building about 4:15 a.m. Friday.

Reports said officers arrived at 909 Plazaview Court and saw a car inside a building. Police found the driver, Debra J. Hickson, 43, of Youngstown, who told officers she was trying to move the car to a different parking spot when her slipper came off her foot, causing her to hit the gas pedal hard and accelerate.

Dickson declined treatment by paramedics, reports said. A records check showed she has a suspended license, reports said. Firefighters secured the building, reports said.

Disorderly conduct

YOUNGSTOWN

A 31-year-old man was charged with disorderly conduct at a South Side park early Thursday evening after police said he would not stop swearing and was fighting people with whom he was playing basketball.

Police were called to a playground at Glenwood and Sherwood avenues about 7:40 p.m. by an off-duty Mahoning County deputy sheriff, who said Toriano S. Haines of Youngstown was fighting with other players he was playing basketball with and swearing. Haines would not stop swearing even after the deputy identified himself as being in law enforcement, reports said.

After Haines was given his citation, reports said he told police he was a sovereign citizen and knew his rights under the law. He was given a court date for his citation.

Paving contract

LIBERTY

Liberty Township trustees approved a contract for road paving. Work will begin as soon as possible on Hadley Avenue, Roosevelt Drive, part of Ravine Road and Northview Road.

Trustees awarded a contract for $269,000 Thursday to Shelley and Sands of Akron.

The paving will be paid for with state grants and a tax-anticipation loan.

Charged in stabbing

YOUNGSTOWN

A Tracey Lane woman is in the Mahoning County jail on $20,000 bond after she was charged with stabbing a man about 9:50 p.m. Thursday.

Lakyra S. Brown, 24, was arraigned before Visiting Judge Barbara Watson in municipal court Friday on a charge of felonious assault.

Reports said officers were called to Brown’s home for a stabbing and found Brown and a man inside a car in the driveway, and the man was bleeding from the head. Reports said the man told officers they argued inside and he was stabbed, and Brown was driving him to the hospital when an ambulance arrived.

The man was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Brown has a no-contact order with the victim should she post bond.

Hydrant flushing

The Trumbull County sanitary engineer will begin flushing fire hydrants of water customers in Warren Township beginning Monday. This process helps improve water quality by removing stagnant water, sediment and excessive metal deposits. This is an effort to provide the highest quality water to everyone.

Some residents may experience temporary discoloration. It is not harmful. Customers are advised to run cold water only until it clears and are cautioned not to wash clothes the day of or day after the flushing. If discoloration continues for more than two hours after the crews have left the area, call 330-675-2775.
