With its 94 fourth-grade students on their last day of school and about to move on to middle school, Stadium Drive Elementary School hosted its annual fourth-grade picnic on June 11 to send the children off to the summer.
The four fourth-grade classes participated in several events, including principal Jim Goske in a dunk tank, Gaga Ball, a tug of war, relay races, cornhole and Kona Ice as a refreshment. The classes rotated events every 20 minutes. Afterwards there was a clap out, in which students paraded around the school and their parents clapped when they walked out of the school for the last time. There was also a balloon release when all fourth-graders were outside.
Andrea Bosnjak of the PTA helped organize the event.
“Every year we have a fourth-grade picnic so someone’s in charge of it with their committee,” she said. “We just try to come up with different ideas. It’s a yearly thing for the fourth-graders to send them off.
“I had a really great committee of helpers and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of everybody, all the parents that helped me.”
One of the fourth-graders who participated was Olivia Cmil. She said her final year at Stadium Drive Elementary was probably her favorite.
“It’s fun. I like the snow cones,” she said. “Probably, one of my favorite years is this year. I liked all the projects and the group projects and everything like that.”
Bosnjak said the children could learn many things by doing some of the events during the picnic.
“Teamwork, camaraderie, friendship, just a send-off, because from here the kids kind of split,” she said. “Some go to Center [Middle School], some go to Glenwood. They won’t hook back up with some of these kids until high school. It’s a nice send-off for them.”
