The Canfield High School Soccer Boosters had its annual Summer Kid’s Camp for Canfield Soccer Club recreational league players on June 16-20. The boosters sponsored the youth soccer camp, which was offered at the Herbert Road Fields, in conjunction with the Canfield High School boys and girls soccer team members, coach Phil Simone, girls junior varsity coach Aleesha Denmeade, boys junior varsity coach Kyle Reese and goalie coach Mike Thomas.

Each day, the high school players helped more than 80 campers from ages 5-13 practice passing, shooting, dribbling or defense with an emphasis on individual skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

The boosters went with a World Cup theme for the week in honor of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Each day of the camp had a theme, including Monday as “Go USA Day,” during which campers celebrated the US team by wearing red, white and blue clothing and accessories; Tuesday as “Crazy Socks Day,” during which campers wore any type of silly socks; Wednesday as “Cardinal Day,” during which campers wore red and black and Cardinal clothes; Thursday as “Hawaiian Day,” during which the campers wore Hawaiian clothes and Friday was “World Cup Day,” during which campers dressed up for their World Cup team.

The Canfield Cardinal Joint Fire District visited the fields during the camp to cool off the campers with their fire hoses.

Linda D’Ippolito served a chairperson of the camp. Each camper received a T-shirt, daily snack and were entered into daily prize drawings. By the end of the week, every child had received a prize.

The boosters received donated items from Whitehouse Fruit Farm, Canfield Dairy Queen, Comprehensive Logistics and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The camp is a fundraiser for Canfield High School Soccer Boosters, with the proceeds going to the program for various team expenses.
