Warren community volunteer sentenced to jail for theft

WARREN— Roderick L. Lewis Jr., 24, of Stewart Drive Northwest, a community volunteer and former candidate for the Warren Board of Education, was sentenced today to 60 days in Trumbull County jail Wednesday for stealing from an elderly woman.

Lewis, known for school-supply giveaways he and his family carried out in recent years, pleaded guilty earlier to five theft-related felony offenses.

Howland police said he impersonated a police officer while talking to the 92-year-old victim and charged more than $2,100 on her credit cards in June 2013.

He will be on probation for five years and must pay $540 in restitution to the victim.
