Historical society archives to close Friday

YOUNGSTOWN — Friday is the last day the Mahoning Valley Historical Society archives will be open at the Wick Avenue location before moving to the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center downtown.

The projected date for the MVHS Archives to reopen at the History Center at 325 W. Federal St. is early November. The move will provide patrons with a larger reference room and additional amenities geared toward making research easier and more efficient. Expanded facilities will provide storage of the entire archival collection under one roof, allowing easier access to processed and unprocessed collections for patrons and staff.

The collection will be primarily unavailable to staff and researchers during the move, limiting the ability to answer reference questions and fulfill imaging requests. Requests for on-site research will be taken on a case by case basis during the transition.
