Flight pledged to clear ex-Ohio officer in slaying

COLUMBUS (AP) — A group that works to free innocent offenders is pledging to clear the name of a former Ohio police captain convicted of killing his ex-wife.

The Ohio Innocence Project says Douglas Prade is entitled to a new trial where the group is confident Prade will be vindicated.

The Ohio Supreme Court today declined by a 4-3 vote to hear Prade’s appeal of a lower-court ruling that reinstated his conviction.

It was not immediately clear what the next step is for Prade, including whether he must return to prison.

The Innocence Project says it is disappointed by the court’s ruling.

Prade was convicted in 1998 of shooting his 41-year-old ex-wife, a family practitioner, inside her van at the parking lot of her Akron office.
