Valley manufacturers' coalition receives workforce grant

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition received a $243,000 Industry Workforce Alliance Grant designed to support development of a career pathway system.

Grant sponsor was the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, according to a press release issued by the MVMC.

“The proposal submitted by MVMC included plans to develop and implement industry‐driven strategies that focus on building a skilled workforce that meets the occupational needs of the manufacturing industry,” the release says. “As a pilot, MVMC will track, measure and report on the project’s impact to state officials, so lessons learned can be applied in other regions throughout the state.”

The grant’s first phase is the development of a career pathway system. The second phase is the implementation of a specialized-training program.
