POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

July 14

Criminal damaging: A $720 beehive sustained damage at a home in the 6500 block of Lowellville Road.

Theft: A 16-foot flatbed trailer was stolen in the 4500 block of Kennedy Road.

July 15

Vandalism: Several residences, cars and traffic signs were damaged on Katahdin, Shawbutte and Coblentz drives.

Recovered property: Numerous items, including various tools, were recovered after having been stolen during a burglary in the 6800 block of Katahdin Drive.

July 18

Identity fraud: A township woman saw that $175 worth of unauthorized purchases had been made when she reviewed her debit-card account online.

BOARDMAN

July 17

Arrest: Justin C. Wilson, 22, of Tyrell Street, Youngstown, was taken into custody at Boardman Area Court on Market Street on a warrant charging violation of a protection order after a Feb. 27 incident in which his sister, of Hudson Drive, alleged he had twice called her in violation of the order.

Domestic violence: A 14-year-old Boardman boy was charged with the crime after his father alleged the teen had punched his face and kicked him during an argument that reportedly began during a disagreement about watching a movie.

Menacing: A Newton Avenue man said a man made a threatening gesture and stated an implied threat as he walked by the accuser’s home.

Misuse of a credit card: A worker for a Southern Park Mall eatery found out her missing debit card had been used for $69 worth of fraudulent activity.

Theft: Fifty to 100 compact discs, money and gift cards were taken from a vehicle in the 6600 block of Ron Park Place.

Identity fraud: A Wendy Lane woman learned that her bank-account information had been used to make $309 worth of unauthorized charges online.

Theft: A man placed flea and tick medications into a blue tote bag and stole the items from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

July 18

Arrest: While responding to a juvenile running away from home, police apprehended and charged a Boardman, girl, 16, with obstructing official business when, they said, she refused to stop running from officers despite having been ordered to do so.

Theft: Lavette Boone, 49, who listed addresses on Elm Street in Struthers and East Boston Avenue in Youngstown, was charged with stealing $34 worth of merchandise from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a window screen to an apartment in the 6900 block of Southern Boulevard before taking a $44 fan.

Citation: Police responded to a man on Market Street reportedly lying by his bicycle before issuing a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 21-year-old Shawn R. Harden of Brookwood Road, Boardman, with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Drugs: Officers dealt with a shoplifting situation at Macy’s in Southern Park Mall before charging 36-year-old Leonard S. Bumbico of North Mecca Street, Cortland, with two felony counts of drug abuse and one misdemeanor count each of drug abuse (marijuana), possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business. Bumbico had several prescription pills, a bag of suspected marijuana and a straw with suspected drug residue, though he had not been charged in the theft, a report showed.

Theft: A New Springfield man discovered $400 had been removed from his truck while in the 800 block of Mathews Road.

Theft: Austintown police handed Nancy J. Dorbish of Norquest Drive, Austintown, to township authorities. The 38-year-old Dorbish was accused of stealing three purses during a June 5 shoplifting at Macy’s.

Theft: Authorities charged 23-year-old William K. Wood of Milton Avenue, Youngstown, in the theft of two video-game pieces from Walmart.

July 19

Arrest: After pulling over 54-year-old Lawrence M. Csernik of Lynn Mar Avenue for speeding near Simon Road, police charged the Poland man with operating a vehicle impaired and failing to wear a seat belt.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a padlock and entered a garage in the 60 block of Shields Road, though it appeared nothing was taken.

Theft: A man stole a $130 Xbox hard-drive item from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A South Avenue man noticed his wallet missing from a kitchen drawer.

Theft: A Poland woman reported a $100 cellphone stolen while at a U.S. Route 224 fitness center.

Theft: Police charged 47-year-old Michael S. McFarland after alleging that McFarland, of Glenwood Avenue, Youngstown, had stolen $64 worth of meat products from Walmart.

July 20

Arrest: Matthew J. Melitto, 21, of Eisenhower Drive, Boardman, faced one count of operating a vehicle impaired after a traffic stop.

Arrest: Authorities responded to a possibly intoxicated person at a Boardman-Canfield fast-food restaurant, then took 43-year-old Thomas P. Ferrara of Huntington Drive, Boardman, into custody upon learning he was accused of failing to appear in court on felony charges of arson and inducing panic. Ferrara also was cited on a charge of disorderly conduct while intoxicated in public.

Burglary: To a residence in the 4400 block of Lockwood Boulevard when someone broke a front-door window. Stolen were five ceiling fans, a chandelier, a water tank and other property.

Harassment: An Edenridge Drive woman told officers her 16-year-old daughter had received inappropriate text messages.

Theft: A man left Sawa Steak House in the Southern Park Mall without paying a $13.38 tab for an alcoholic beverage.

Robbery: A man in his mid-30s at Home Depot, 7001 Southern Blvd., reportedly threw a loss-prevention official to the ground after stealing a $398 kitchen faucet. The man tossed the item over a fence, then struck the official when he tried to prevent the man from getting into a vehicle and leaving, a report stated.

Arrest: Celeste S. Moody, 36, of Glenwood Avenue, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over.

July 21

Assault: A Sheridan Road man reported having been pushed against a car during a fight with another man that apparently started after the accuser had changed his mind about putting gasoline in a vehicle.
