Police had to use an electronic stun gun on a man who tried to run from them during an investigation at an East Side scrapyard Monday morning.

Officers were called to Divers Steel City, 590 Himrod Ave., about 10:25 a.m. by the owner, who said people in a car were trying to sell weights taken from railroad-crossing arms, which were suspected of being stolen.

Police questioned the man and woman in the car and found the man, 35-year-old Weylin Jennings Scott of Ridgelawn Avenue, had a burglary warrant from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.

When they took him out of the car, he tried to run away, reports said.

Officers managed to grab his shirt and take him to the ground, but he continued to resist so an electronic stun gun was used on him, reports said.

Scott and the driver of the car, Mellissa Ann Warner, 38, of Halls Heights, were each arrested on charges of receiving stolen property.

A representative from the railroad told police the weights were taken from crossing arms on Valley Street and Hubbard Road in the city and three locations in Trumbull County.
