The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are inviting baseball fans and fans of the fight against cancer to purchase tickets for the Aug. 10 baseball game between the Scrappers and Staten Island Yankees to benefit Yellow Brick Place, a planned facility where people diagnosed with cancer can go for support and resources. Cafaro Field gates will open at 4 p.m., and the game will start at 5:05. The Scrappers are contributing half of every $8 ticket sold for the Aug. 10 game to Yellow Brick Place to help it establish a home.

Community cookout

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Inner City Garden will have a free community cookout from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 3 at 3411 Idlewood Ave. The garden offers free freshly grown produce. The event includes raffles and a cornhole tournament. All donated proceeds benefit the garden’s building and maintenance fund. Contact Mason Carratt at 234-855-0259.

Meridian Community Care’s Families Who Know and Boardman Park are sponsoring Families Who Know Night Out at the Park at 6 p.m. Saturday at Boardman Park in front of the Maag Theatre. The free event is designed to bring kids and their parents together for a fun evening of family-friendly activities. Twister, wagon rides, bounce-a-rounds, face painting, live music, special appearances by Youngstown State University athletes and a movie are among the activities planned.
