The Canfield Baseball Club had its inaugural Bat-a-Thon on May 31, with members of the baseball and softball teams participating to raise money for the club.

Members of the league solicited donations from family, friends, neighbors and community members and participated in the Bat-a-Thon to win prizes. Each team was assigned a time throughout the day and each player received three pitches from his or her coach. If the player hit a marker on the field, the player was able to choose a prize from an assortment of prizes.

The players also earned cumulative prizes with the amount of donations they turned in, including CBC water bottles, Bat-a-Thon T-shirts and CBC cinch sacks. The player on both the baseball side and softball side with the highest amount of donations was awarded the grand prize, an iPad mini, and the team which raised the most money was awarded a pizza party.

Making a family day of it, the club also offered a home run derby, a dunk tank, 50/50 raffle and specials at the concession stand.

Bat-a-Thon sponsors included Dr. Ray Bernat of Advanced Dermatology, Wes Prout of Prout Boiler, Stadium Chevrolet of Salem, Red Robin, Rich Beidelschies of Dekalb Asgrow-Mondant and Dave and Phyllis Schaab. T.P. Tools and Equipment also donated a bucket full of items for a raffle.

Proceeds from the Bat-a-Thon will go back to the club to improve the club’s facilities, upgrade equipment, renovations and maintain the ballpark.
