Crable named CEO at Northside

Northside Medical Center will have a new chief executive officer as Trent Crable takes over Aug. 4.

Crable has 25 years of experience in the health care industry and was most recently the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Brooklyn Hospital Center, a 426-bed teaching hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

At that hospital, Crable led efforts to improve the facility by adding ambulatory surgery, reducing infection rates and helping recruit 12 new surgeons to the facility.

“Trent has an established commitment to enhancing quality measures and the patient experience as well as a solid track record for making hospitals places where physicians and employees enjoy coming to work,” said Sandy Kessler, chairman of the Northside Medical Center Board of Trustees.

Crable was also previously CEO of George Washington University Hospital and associate executive director at the University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from West Chester University in West Chester, Pa., and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he later served as vice president of professional services of VCU’s Health System.

“For more than 100 years, Northside Medical Center has cared for the Youngstown community, and I’m honored to join the team of physicians, employees and volunteers that work so hard to continue that mission. Northside remains a valuable resource for this area, now more than ever with the new resources available to patients,” Crable said in a release, referencing the recently completed expansion of the hospital’s emergency department and three-story tower.

Kent Brown is currently the interim CEO at Northside. Kirk Ray was CEO at all three area ValleyCare hospitals in Northside until March when he was promoted to vice president of operations within the hospital’s parent company, Community Health Systems.
