Moore, Lowell down Scrappers

LOWELL, MASS.

Nick Moore hit two homers and drove in four runs to lead the Lowell Spinners to an 8-5 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a New York-Penn League game on Monday at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.

Yonathan Mendoza had two hits, including a double, and scored twice for the Scrappers (10-21), who scored four runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Lowell scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.

Steven Patterson added two hits, a run and a RBI for Mahoning Valley. Julian Merryweather started and gave up four runs on seven hits in three innings. Anthony Vizcaya (1-3) got the loss, giving up three runs on five hits in an inning of relief. David Speer pitched three innings of shutout relief, giving up one hit with three strikeouts.

Ellis Jimenez (2-1) got the win after blowing a save opportunity, giving up a run in 21/3 innings.

The Scrappers had won two straight following an eight-game losing streak. They are off today and begin a six-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Connecticut at Eastwood Field.
