Boardman police now holding car that was reported stolen

A rental car valued at $21,000 turned up missing Sunday from the parking lot of the Southern Park Mall, 7401 Market Street.

According to a police report, the victim of the theft rented a blue 2014 Dodge Avenger from Enterprise and parked it in the south parking lot of the mall, near Sear’s. She accidentally left a set of keys in the center console.

After being picked up by a friend, the victim locked the car with a second set of keys and went to work.

When the victim came back to the parking lot, the Avenger was missing.

Along with the car, almost $850 worth of property was stolen from the vehicle. The stolen items included a Mongoose bicycle and an iPod.

After running the car’s license plate number through a database, township police discovered that it had been towed by the Youngstown police department Monday for an accident investigation.

The vehicle is being held for investigation by township police.
