Jurors in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court began deliberating Thursday the fate of a Liberty man facing charges of attempted murder and felonious assault.

Cametrius Adams, 41, of Trumbull Court in Liberty, faces a charge of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault in a shooting July 11, 2009, where a woman and her brother were wounded at the corner of Lucius Avenue and Rush Boulevard on the South Side.

The charges had been dismissed in 2012 because of the failure of prosecutors to find a key witness but they were reinstated last year and Adams was indicted again.

Jurors were picked last week in the courtroom of Judge Maureen Sweeney.

Jurors deliberated the majority of the afternoon before leaving about 4 p.m. Thursday. They are expected to continue today.

Another man police say was involved in the shooting testified during the trial and will receive a six-year prison sentence, which includes the two years he has spent in jail before the trial, said Assistant Prosecutor Rob Andrews.

In his closing argument, Andrews said that it was Adams who orchestrated the double shooting. He did not give jurors a motive but alluded to possible romantic entanglements brought up by the defense as a reason for the shooting.

Jeffrey Limbian, Adams’ attorney, told jurors the victims and the main prosecution witness changed their testimony several times and were not credible.
