Plant Parts, Patterns: Conifers

When: Jan. 29, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

What: Enjoy mid-morning stroll through gardens as you learn botany basics and patterns of plant families. Return to Davis Center for seasonal lunch.

Soil & Senses

When: Today, 1-2 p.m. or Saturday, 10–11 a.m.,

What: Children age 3-5 will learn about our five senses, then use these senses to explore the soil below us. A snack, story and soil-art included.

Winter Plants & Wildlife

When: Saturday, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

What: Children 6-11 will learn on a walk how plants help wildlife survive during the winter season by providing shelter and food. Come back in for a sip of hot cocoa and to make some wildlife friendly treats with seeds and berries.

Bird ID

When: Tuesday, 7 p.m.

What: Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley President Jeff Harvey will teach you how to use field guides and binoculars to identify birds. Bring those tools with you to practice. Prizes may be awarded. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m.; program at 7.

Mystery of Seeds

When: Thursday, 6-7:30 p.m.

What: Meet Horticulture Director Keith Kaiser in Fellows Riverside Gardens’ Antonucci Library for the first in a quarterly series about plants. This day explore the wealth of knowledge available in the library about seeds. Bring seeds to donate to the new Seed Library at the Gardens.

Caribbean Breakfast

When: Friday, 6-8 p.m.

What: Georgia Newton, a mom who often prepares large island-style meals for her family and community, will instruct class on how to make delicious Caribbean breakfast.

Where: Demonstration Kitchen, 822 Billingsgate Ave. (at back of Iron Roots Urban Farm).
