Motorcycle training courses to be offered

Motorcycle Ohio, which started training in 1987, is one again offering motorcycle training programs. The program is funded by a six dollar tax on each license plate on every motorcycle in Ohio.

Different training programs in the area benefit different types of riders. Programs offered include:

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) - Introductory Motorcycle Experience (IME) is an event designed to be an experience, not a training course. Participants are not taking this program to learn to ride, but to experience a motorcycle’s operational characteristics through an initial hands-on experience in a low risk and controlled environment. This allows the participant to consider the possibility of formally learning to ride.

Basic Rider Course (BRC) - For this course, all you need is a desire to learn, a motorcycle valid temporary permit (or endorsement), the proper clothing and the right attitude. This course is design is for the novice. For more information, visit www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/basi rider.stm.

Returning Riders (BRC-RR) - This course is for riders 18 and over who have been riding on a temporary permit for at least a year, or who are starting to ride again after an extended time away from riding. The course is intended to helps reduce bad habit. Learn more by visiting www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/BRC-RR.stm.

Basic Rider Course-2 (BRC-2) - If you already have your motorcycle endorsement and your own motorcycle, the Basic Rider Course-2 (BRC-2) is a course designed as early-season refresher, to bond with that new-to-you motorcycle, or to gain experience and improve control while riding with a passenger. More information can be found at www.motorcycle.ohio.gov/BRC2.stm.

3-Wheel Basic Ridercourse - The MSF 3-Wheel Basic RiderCourse (3WBRC) is a basic, entry-level course for those who want to learn to ride a 3-wheel motorcycle. For more information, contact msf-usa.org or a rider coach at orangewinglady@zoominternet.net.

Not all training sites offer all of the training courses. In the Mahoning Valley Kent State Warren and Salem Campus offers the BRC. Harley Davidson BikeTown offers BRC-RR, BRC-2, 3WBRC and MSF.
