Campbell man appears in court on drug charges

CAMPBELL — A 23-year-old Campbell man arrested Friday after police found a charred glass pipe containing suspected marijuana on him was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia today in Campbell Municipal Court.

John F. Spencer Jr., of Princess Street, will next appear in Campbell Municipal Court for a pretrial at 9 a.m. Aug. 5.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, police noticed a man run across Struthers Liberty Road and hastily make his way down a narrow pathway between two fences bordering two private properties.

According to the report, the cold weather, the time of night, and the fact that the man was walking in city residents’ backyards prompted the officer to investigate.

When questioned by police, Spencer said he lived on Robinson Road and was simply trying to get home.

Police noticed Spencer’s red, bloodshot eyes and slow speech, along with the strong odor of marijuana coming from him, and asked if he had anything illegal on him; Spencer then produced the recently used marijuana pipe that contained both burned and unburned marijuana.

The marijuana pipe was secured in an evidence locker at the Campbell Police Department.
