POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Feb. 16

Arrest: Authorities answered a call regarding a possible fight in the 100 block of North Lorain Avenue before arresting William J. Markum, no information given, who was wanted on two warrants, one each from Girard and the Trumbull County 911 center.

Criminal mischief: A vehicle in the 1000 block of North State Street was found with a smashed rear windshield. Damage came to $150.

Threats: Glenroy L. Dillon of Church Hill Road, Girard, faced charges of making a domestic-violence threat, obstructing official business, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after his wife alleged Dillon had threatened her with severe bodily harm. He also flew into a tirade and refused to calm down and cooperate with police, they said.

Feb. 18

Arrest: Officers responded to possible vehicle damage at a U.S. Route 422 fast-food restaurant, where they cited 29-year-old Jami L. Tarr of Cortland on a charge of disorderly conduct while intoxicated.

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol on Route 422 pulled over Michael Flaviani, 20, of East Market Street, Warren, then handed him to Girard authorities. Flaviani was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Feb. 19

Menacing: An East Broadway Avenue woman reported that having posted an ad online to sell a puppy led to her receiving at least 80 threatening text messages and calls.

Arrest: After getting a tip about a possible reckless driver on Route 422, police arrested 40-year-old Sandy Ensign on charges of operating a vehicle impaired, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Ensign, of Rachel Drive Southwest, Warren, also screamed and kicked at officers, striking one in the leg, a report said.

Feb. 20

Arrest: Keith P. Brewer of Patricia Drive, Girard, was taken into custody. The 26-year-old Brewer was wanted on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a domestic-violence charge.

LIBERTY

Feb. 13

Arrest: A traffic stop near Gypsy Lane resulted in a summons charging 31-year-old Amy E. Bruss of McBride Street, Youngstown, with obstructing official business. Bruss, who was wanted on two Youngstown warrants, provided a false name, police said.

Feb. 14

Misuse of a credit card/theft: A Walker Circle woman noticed at least four unauthorized charges to her credit card and that roughly $1,400 was missing from her home.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A 29-year-old Youngstown woman reportedly test drove, then stole a 1999 Saturn vehicle from Church Hill Motors, 1480 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Feb. 15

Theft: Gregory L. Davenport, 41, of Elm Street, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a $20 hooded sweatshirt from Citi Trends, a clothing store at 3495 Belmont Ave.

Arrest: Authorities were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to book 37-year-old Stephanie M. Bowen of Barkeyville Road, Grove City, Pa., on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Theft by deception: A West Montrose Street man noticed suspicious transactions to his bank account while checking the status of his income-tax refund.

Theft: Angela Harris of Linwood Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with stealing $53 worth of wrenches and ratchets from Auto Zone, 3109 Belmont Ave. Harris, 33, also was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Citation: Authorities answered a call regarding a car off the road near Ventura and East drives before citing Joseph L. Christian, 30, of Aurora Drive, Liberty, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to control a motor vehicle.

Feb. 16

Drugs: Police on Belmont Avenue pulled over and charged 54-year-old Marvin Williams of Bryson Street, Youngstown, with one felony count each of trafficking in marijuana and cocaine after alleging that they found a pill bottle with eight individually wrapped bags of suspected marijuana as well as another bottle with a bag containing a rock that Williams admitted was cocaine. Also arrested was Victor D. Richardson, 48, of Northview Boulevard, Liberty, on a Youngstown warrant.

Arrest: Darius D. Beasley, 21, of Cedar Lane, Youngstown, faced felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property during a traffic stop on Belmont Avenue when, police said, he admitted having removed a temporary tag from another man’s vehicle. Beasley also received a minor-misdemeanor citation charging marijuana possession.

Feb. 17

Arrest: Officers took into custody 23-year-old Jose M. Vega of Wydesteel Drive, Youngstown, as well as 52-year-old Jeffrey L. Bell of Second Street, Warren. Both were accused of failing to appear in court on traffic-related charges.

Feb. 18

Burglary: To a residence in the 100 block of Laurel Street via the front door before the homeowner returned to discover numerous DVDs strewn about. A Sony PlayStation 3 console and related items were missing.

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a rear door, disabled the alarm and ransacked a back room at Instant Cash for Gold & Diamonds, 3227 Belmont Ave. Money, jewelry and digital scales were among items taken.

Breaking and entering: An overhead garage door and window were used to enter Jordan Auto Sales, 2800 Belmont Ave. Stolen were 50 ignition keys and various chemicals and filters, for a loss of $5,500.

Feb. 19

Arrest: A traffic stop near the Liberty Plaza led to 39-year-old Dustin L. Ruiter’s arrest. Ruiter, of Adelaide Avenue, Warren, was wanted on a warrant from that city.

Auto theft: A 2003 Hyundai vehicle was stolen in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue.

Criminal damaging: A witness reported seeing a car strike and damage a wooden fence in the 3000 block of Frederick Street. The damage estimate was $750.

HUBBARD

Feb. 8

Burglary: Occurred in the 200 block of Myron Street, likely through a rear door. A flat-screen TV, assorted kitchen items, a tackle box and other property was stolen, for a $1,812 loss.

Feb. 16

Theft: A man in a black coat stole a $19 bottle of laundry detergent from Dollar General, 886 W. Liberty St., then left in a gray vehicle.

Theft: Michael A. Wells, 23, of Woodland Avenue, Hubbard, was charged with stealing four wheel-lock kits and a can of spray paint from O’Reilly Auto Parts, 840 W. Liberty St.

Feb. 17

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 37-year-old Willie E. Foster Jr. of West Dennick Avenue, Youngstown. Foster was wanted on a Girard warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Bentley Street man said a friend borrowed his 2007 Toyota vehicle to run errands but failed to return the car.

Deception: Someone phoned in a suspicious prescription to CVS Pharmacy, 134 Youngstown-Hubbard Road, for which no records could be found.

Feb. 18

Harassment: A Jerry Drive man said he’s received weekly calls from a man claiming to represent Microsoft Corp. who says that thousands of people are attempting to hack into the accuser’s computer.
