Youngstown State University’s quarterly alumni publication, YSU Magazine – A Magazine for Alumni and Friends, won a national award in the 2013 Collegiate Advertising Awards competition.
YSU’s entry was selected for a Gold Award in the university magazine series category for schools with enrollments between 10,001 and 20,000 students.
The magazine’s editor, Cynthia Vinarsky, and the university’s public-information officer, Ron Cole, previously worked for The Vindicator.
The Collegiate Advertising Awards recognizes educational marketing professionals for excellence in 39 award categories. A panel made up of design and education marketing professionals judges the approximately 700 entries that are received each year from colleges and universities across the country.

“Blood on the Mountain” — a documentary that chronicles how West Virginia’s history of under-regulated corporations and corrupt politics have hurt the land and tarnished the state — will be previewed Thursday at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 Wood St.
Mary-Lynn Evans, who produced “Coal Country” and “The Appalachians,” will lead a discussion about the film afterward. The preview will begin at 7 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
The screening and discussion is sponsored by the Youngstown State University Center for Applied History.
Beforehand, Evans will meet with YSU journalism students to discuss storytelling through documentary.
