Career fair planned for 10th-graders

WEST MIDDLESEX, PA.

The Shenango Valley Chamber will host a business and industry career fair March 13 for high-school sophomores at the Park Inn by Radisson here.

The event is funded by the OH-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness Grant administered by West Central Job Partnership.

More than 800 students will meet with representatives from companies and post-secondary schools to learn about opportunities for both college- and noncollege-bound students.

Official to speak at chamber event

John Carey, chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, will speak about the state’s efforts to prepare students for college and careers at a Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber luncheon, scheduled for March 19 at the Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

The event, hosted by the chamber’s Government Affairs Council, will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Shawn Brown, interim executive director of the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education, will also give an update on Talent Dividend, a program designed to increase the percentage of adults with a college degree in Northeast Ohio.

Networking mixer

CANFIELD

Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road, will host its “Strictly Business Networking Mixer” starting at 5 p.m. March 6.

General admission is $15, and promotional tables are available for $100 each. The attire is casual and professional.

Fracking question can be on May ballot

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Community Bill of Rights Committee has announced it has gained enough signatures to put a question to ban fracking within city limits on the May primary ballot.

The committee also announced that it will kick off a public-awareness campaign with a town-hall meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, 1105 Elm St.

The meeting will include a screening of brief films, a presentation by geologist Ray Beiersdorfer, Ph.D., a professor of geology at Youngstown State University, and open discussion among organizers and attendees.

Pa. shale advocates plan May 6 rally

HARRISBURG, PA.

The Marcellus Shale Coalition announced a rally of Pennsylvania shale advocates slated for May 6 here.

The event aims to bring together a broad coalition that supports the shale industry for its economic and energy benefits in the state.
