Sahni clinches YSU win over Florida Atlantic

Boca Raton, Fla.

Youngstown State freshman Nehel Sahni earned a tough three-set victory at No. 5 singles to help left the Penguins to a 4-3 win over Florida Atlantic on Thursday. The Owls (1-3) won the doubles point to force the Penguins to win four singles matches. YSU improves to 4-3 with the win and has won four of its last five.

In singles play, Annina Brendel picked up the first win at No. 3 defeating Stephanie Cardullo 6-4, 6-3. Marta Burak followed with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2 over Lyndsey Boos. The Penguins tied the match when Domincka Lackova won 6-3, 6-4 against Catalina Ene.

The match came down to the third set between Sahni and FAU’s Bianca Biglione. Sahni won the first set 6-0. Biglione picked up a 7-5 win in set No. 2 before Sahni regrouped and won 6-3 in the third set.

Openings remain for CCW pistol class

Just 18 seats remain open for a comprehensive CCW-NRA Basic Pistol Class scheduled Monday through Wednesday (6 to 10 p.m. each night) at the Hubbard Conservation Club. The class meets the requirements to apply for an Ohio Concealed Carry License.

Three NRA trained HCC Concealed Carry instructors will be on site. The 12-hour course consists of classroom instruction, Ohio law and range time. All NRA materials, ammunition, use of target pistols, and ear and eye protection will be supplied.

Pacers trade Granger to 76ers for Turner

INDIANAPOLIS

Less than three weeks after signing Andrew Bynum, Indiana sent Danny Granger and a 2015 second-round draft pick to Philadelphia in exchange for former first-round pick Evan Turner and forward Lavoy Allen.

Turner, a 6-foot-7 guard, was the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2010 after winning college basketball’s player of the year award. He was averaging a team-high 17.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists and could become a free agent after this season.

FORT MYERS, Fla.

The Boston Red Sox have reached agreement with left-hander Chris Capuano on a $2.25 million, one-year contract, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity on Thursday because completion of the deal was pending a physical.

Canfield High basketball player Cole Pryjma is of Ukrainian descent. A story in Thursday’s edition incorrectly said his family’s roots are from the former Czechoslovakia.
