POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Feb. 14

Identity fraud: A Luteran Lane woman discovered $195 worth of fraudulent activity to her debit card.

BOARDMAN

Feb. 13

Burglary: A woman discovered in the snow suspicious footprints leading to and from the front door of her father’s residence in the 400 block of Brookfield Avenue, though it was unknown if anything was stolen.

Bad check: The owner of a New Castle, Pa., business told police someone tried to cash a fraudulent $1,998 check at a Boardman-Poland Road bank.

Arrest: Officers responded to three men soliciting near Shields Road before taking into custody Cyrus L. Brown, 33, of Euclid, who was wanted on a warrant accusing him of soliciting without a permit. Brown also was given a minor-misdemeanor citation charging marijuana possession.

Theft: Beaver Township police handed to Boardman authorities 38-year-old Gregory A. Waterbeck of Alliance, who was wanted on a theft warrant after a Squirrel Hill Court woman reported having made a $250 down payment to a contractor for plumbing work that was never completed.

Attempted burglary: Someone tried to break into a residence in the 6900 block of West Boulevard before the homeowner noticed cracks in a door jamb.

Theft: A student at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave., reported an iPhone missing from his book bag.

Employee theft: Shane K. Yesovich, 36, of Lockwood Boulevard, Boardman, faced a felony-theft charge after an official with Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road, alleged Yesovich had taken a series of deposits totaling $10,989. Yesovich also admitted having five deposits, which came to about $1,188, in his vehicle, a report showed.

Feb. 14

Theft: A Youngstown girl, 17, was charged with taking two pairs each of pants and athletic socks from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Rondaisha M. West, 19, of Rosewood Lane, Youngstown, along with a 16-year-old city girl, was charged in the theft of $264 worth of clothing from the J.C. Penney store in the Southern Park Mall.

Assault: Authorities answered a fight call at a South Avenue salon, where two women each reported having been assaulted by the other during an argument that apparently began when one of them refused to delete a video from her cellphone.

Auto theft: A 2001 Toyota Avalon was stolen in the 1400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road.

Drugs: Police on Youngstown-Poland Road pulled over and cited Brian Golec of Oxford Street, Campbell, on two misdemeanor drug-abuse counts and one of driving under suspension. Golec, 24, had a bottle containing one Alprazolam, a narcotic commonly used to treat anxiety, a report said.

Weapon: After being pulled over near South Avenue, 25-year-old John F. Durkin was charged with one felony count of carrying a concealed weapon after authorities alleged Durkin, of West Calla Road, Canfield, failed to mention a loaded revolver was in the vehicle.

Feb. 15

Citation: Police responded to a loud-music complaint in the 100 block of Jennette Drive, where they handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to Richard R. Holstein, 28, of Lauderdale Avenue, Youngstown, charging him with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Theft: Keith M. Brooks, 51, and Michael D. Miller, 54, both of Hilton Avenue, Youngstown, were charged with theft and complicity to theft, respectively, after a can of bug spray was stolen from Family Dollar, 4030 South Ave.

Assault: A Youngstown woman told police she was attacked while in a checkout lane at a business in the 400 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Drugs: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Robert P. White of Beaver-Springfield Road, New Springfield, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business. White, who also was wanted on a Beaver Township warrant charging unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe, and provided a false name and date of birth, authorities alleged.

Burglary: To a garage in the 1200 block of Pioneer Drive. A snow blower and an assortment of tools were stolen, for a $1,400 loss.

Identity fraud: A Shields Road woman told police a caller claiming she had an account with Western Union tricked her into providing her Social Security number and other personal information as part of a scam.

Criminal mischief: Two vehicles in the 100 block of Ridgewood Drive were hit with paint balls.

Assault: A township woman reported four male teens slapped her head after she had smiled at them while in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Doral Drive. The four then fled.

Assaults: Two people reported having been struck in the face during a fight at a business in the 7600 block of South Avenue. The face of one of the combatants was covered in blood, police said.

Assault: A Carter Circle woman alleged her boyfriend’s mother grabbed and scratched her upper arm, causing the accuser to lose her balance.

Stolen property: A 14-year-old Youngstown girl faced a receiving-stolen-property charge after police responded to a theft and alleged she was in possession of items stolen from Family Dollar, 4030 South Ave.

Feb. 16

Theft: Melissa A. Manley, 31, was arrested on a theft charge as well as a warrant charging theft. Manley, of Lynn Avenue, Poland, was accused of stealing a $50 Xbox controller from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Market Street led to the arrest of 37-year-old Tangy C. Valentin of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, on a felony drug-possession charge and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. A bag containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine, as well as a straw with suspected drug residue, were found, authorities said.

Arrest: Authorities charged 31-year-old Shawn R. McGehee of Poland with fleeing and eluding police, a third-degree felony, when, they said, McGehee refused to pull over for a traffic stop and led them on a vehicular pursuit from near U.S. Route 224 and Market Street to his Renwick Drive residence.

Feb. 17

Arrest: Jose M. Vega, 23, was taken into custody at his Meadowbrook Avenue home on a Trumbull County warrant charging the Boardman man with failure to appear in court.

Theft: Two books of Ohio Lottery scratch-off tickets worth a total of $750 were removed from a Boardman-Poland Road business.

Arrest: Officers responded to an unwanted person on Doncaster Drive, where they arrested 55-year-old Gregory C. Naypaver of Doncaster, Boardman, on charges of burglary, violating a protection order and obstructing official business. Naypaver, who was found hiding in the attic, also violated the order a family member had sought against him, a report showed.

Theft of services: A woman in her early 30s left Salon at Creekside, 1449 Boardman-Canfield Road, without paying for a $40 haircut.

Pursuit: Authorities signed warrants charging Carlos M. Herring of Maplewood Avenue, Struthers, with failure to comply with police, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Officers near Afton Avenue pulled over the 26-year-old Herring before he led them on a foot chase, they said.

Harassment: A Newport Drive man said a former friend made four unwanted calls asking him for money and a place to stay.

Theft: Pierre H. Thacker, 22, of East Judson Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with taking a $50 Bluetooth wireless speaker from Walmart.

Arrest: Police responded to a report of a vehicle having struck a home on Timothy Lane before arresting 37-year-old Willie E. Foster Jr. of South Schenley Avenue, Boardman. He was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant charging failure to appear in court.
