Hilltop Elementary School students celebrated the annual day of love, Valentine’s Day, by passing out valentines to their classmates and playing games and making crafts during their classroom parties Feb. 13.

Each class had a party in their classrooms, coordinated by PTO volunteers, during which students played games, made crafts, enjoyed a snack and exchanged the all-important valentines.

Students brought in hand-decorated valentine boxes, such as a gumball machine, a Rubik’s cube, sports-themed boxes and several minions from “Despicable Me, to collect valentines and treats from their classmates.

The students played such special Valentine-themed games as a race to see who could stack the most candy hearts, a contest to see who could pick up the most candy hearts with chopsticks and place them in a bowl, Cupid’s arrow and pin the heart on the heart.

Many students, staff and PTO volunteers also got into the spirit of the holiday and celebrated it by wearing their Valentine best, including red, pink and white shirts and special Valentine-themed clothes, accessories and hair bows.

The school’s PTO provided snacks and drinks for the parties.
