Friday, February 21, 2014

The Boardman Community Foundation is offering two $500 scholarships for students who are high school seniors and Boardman residents for college, vocational school, technical school or other post high school education. You may print the application for the scholarship from the foundation’s website at www.cfmv.org, or contact the foundation at 330-743-5555. The scholarship will be made to a 501(c)(3) institution for post high school education in the name of the scholarship recipient. A selection committee will be established with no fewer than five people to review the applications. The foundation’s Board of Directors will approve the appointment of the selection committee. The donor, advisors or related parties cannot benefit from the scholarship fund.

The deadline for applying for the scholarship is March 31. Students selected will be notified in April.

The selection committee will base its decision on the following criteria:

• Boardman Residents

• Grade point average 3.0 or higher

• School activities, community and personal activities

• Awards and recognition

• Work history

• Quality of the Essay on “How has living in Boardman Township prepared you for your future goals and aspirations?” The essay will account for 60% of the criteria for awarding the scholarships.

• Two letters of recommendation (minimum)

The applications should be submitted to Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, 201 E Commerce St., Suite 150, Youngstown, OH 44503.

The Boardman Community Foundation (boardmanfund.org) is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and the scholarships will be awarded from the Boardman Community Foundation fund.
