Youngstown police nab man after foot chase on South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — Police found a .40-caliber handgun and 57 pills on a man after a foot chase on the South Side about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police were called to the area of Southern Boulevard and East Avondale Avenue for a report of a man waving a gun around. When officers tried to talk to a man matching the description of the person, that man, later identified as 20-year-old Kendall Jones of Youngstown, ran away with his hand on his waist like he had a gun, reports said.

Jones was chased to a vacant East Avondale home, where he was caught. A police dog found the loaded gun in the hedges in front of the house, reports said.

Jones was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He faces charges of possession of drugs, carrying a concealed weapon, obstruction of official business and being a convicted felon in illegal possession of a gun.
