Pa. mother and toddler killed in two-vehicle crash

WEST NEWTON, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania State Police say a 31-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son were killed when her vehicle crossed the center line of a rural road and collided head-on with a pickup truck in western Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Belle Vernon barracks identified the victims as Jillian Marie Trayter, of Ruffsdale, and Calin Harvey Trayter.

Authorities say both died at the scene of the crash in South Huntingdon Township, near the village of Reagantown.

Westmoreland County dispatchers say the crash was reported shortly before 7 a.m. today.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution, but was not believed to be seriously injured.

Police were investigating the cause, but they say it does not appear that weather or road conditions contributed to the crash.
