No charges in Ohio fatal police shooting

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in southwestern Ohio say a grand jury has cleared a police officer who fatally shot an 18-year-old who was firing an assault rifle.

Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said today that a grand jury found no wrongdoing by officer Chad Stafford. The 44-year-old officer is recovering at home after being grazed in the head by a bullet during Saturday’s shootout in a residential neighborhood of Hamilton.

The prosecutor took the case to a grand jury as a matter of policy for officer-involved shootings.

The slain youth was identified as Brandon Keeler. Police had been called about a man shooting a gun into the air.

Authorities say the youth also had a Glock handgun and a large supply of ammunition. Federal agents are investigating.
