Boardman police arrested a 31-year-old Poland man on charges of fleeing and eluding police early Sunday.

Shawn McGehee of Renwick Drive was arraigned on Tuesday morning.

At almost 3 a.m. Sunday, Boardman police attempted to make a traffic stop on a Dodge Avenger. Radar caught the driver going 62 miles-per-hour past the Shops at Boardman Park on U.S. Route 224, according to a police report. The officer saw the vehicle strike a curb.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on South Avenue, but the driver kept going.

The driver turned right onto Matthews Road and still did not stop for police.

The officer was in pursuit of the driver with emergency sirens on and lights. The driver went 50 miles-per-hour down Matthews Road. The driver did not stop until he pulled into a driveway on Renwick Drive.

The driver was ordered out at gunpoint, at which time he got out of his vehicle and used the car for balance. He was placed in handcuffs after he wrestled with the officer on the arrest.

The driver had a strong odor of alcohol on him, according to police.

The driver, identified as McGehee, refused sobriety tests.

McGehee was also issued citations for reckless operation and operating a vehicle impaired.
