Man gets life plus 20 to 40 years in bar slayings

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 20 to 40 years in a bar shooting that killed one man and wounded two others.

Twenty-six-year-old David Mazzocco of Imperial was convicted in Allegheny County in November of first-degree murder, attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the March 2013 shootings inside the Fort Pitt Inn.

Authorities said 29-nine-year-old karaoke DJ James Adams was killed and another man was left blind and partially deaf. Judge Donna Jo McDaniel called the shootings “excessively senseless and excessively cruel.”

Mazzocco’s mother, 61-year-old Gloria Mazzocco, was convicted of providing the weapon used although prosecutors said she knew her son wasn’t allowed to have a gun because of his mental problems. She is scheduled for sentencing next month.
