City residents flooded the Struthers Police Department with concerned phone calls after an emergency siren began to sound shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.

Despite the noise, which lasted about an hour, there was no emergency, police officials said.

It was caused simply by a malfunction with the emergency siren in the Garfield Street lot, located across the street from Struthers High School’s football stadium, they added.

Panel discussion

WARREN

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is organizing a panel discussion on how the Warren community is addressing the challenges of drug addiction.

The public event will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Park Ave. It features local experts discussing the issues followed by an open discussion.

“On average, five people die every day in Ohio because of accidental overdose,” DeWine says in a press release.

Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., will have a Dress to Succeed winter clothing giveaway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Public dialogue

WARREN

Warren city councilmen Greg Bartholomew and John Brown are inviting Warren residents to a public dialogue on the potential re-districting effort in Warren.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. today at The Lime Tree Restaurant, 187 Market St. Questions and input from the public are welcome.
