5 swimmers, 10 teams qualify for state meet

Ten Mahoning Valley high school swimmers and five relay teams have qualified for the state swimming and diving meet that runs Wednesday through Saturday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

The 24 qualifiers in each event were announced Sunday. The top two finishers at each district meet earned automatic berths. The rest qualified after times from the district meets were compared.

Four Canfield boys qualified for individual races in the Division II meet. Connor Brady will compete in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke while Daniel Bogen will swim in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle races.

Drew Bennett qualified in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle while Kyle Anderson will race in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle.

Canfield’s 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle teams also qualified.

In Division I, Warren Harding’s Dylan Thirion will race in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Harding’s 200 freestyle relay team also qualified.

Three girls qualified for individual races in Division I. Warren Harding’s Emily Thirion will compete in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Boardman’s Brooke Bailey also will compete in the 100 breaststroke while Jessica Hilk will swim in the 100 butterfly.

In Division II, divers Savannah Teter of Girard and Faith Anderson of East Palestine will compete.
