Authors will sign book about children

Authors Louise Mason and Janine Motley will be available to sign copies of their book, “Life Lessons for Little Learners,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Books-A-Million, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road.

The book’s purpose is to help those who want to make sure a child has the best opportunity for academic success.

That results from teaching social skills and behaviors needed to enhance the learning environment, the authors say.

Jan Karon writing new Mitford novel

Jan Karon is going back to Mitford.

Nearly a decade after the novelist announced she was done with her multimillion-selling Mitford Years series, she has signed up with G.P. Putnam’s Sons for two more installments about the fictional North Carolina town and such residents as Father Tim Kavanaugh and his wife, Cynthia. The next release, “Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good,” is scheduled for September.

Karon said in a statement issued by Putnam that her decision to resume the Mitford series proves that one should “never say never.” She has written nine previous Mitford books, most recently “Light from Heaven,” which came out in 2005.

Putnam is an imprint of Penguin Random House.

Russert’s ‘ Big Russ & Me’ to be reissued

Tim Russert isn’t around to celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Big Russ & Me,” his best-seller about his dad. But Russert’s son, Luke, is stepping in.

Weinstein Books has announced that an anniversary edition of “Big Russ” is scheduled for May release and features a new preface by Luke Russert. A sentimental favorite, the book tells of Tim Russert’s childhood in a working-class neighborhood in Buffalo, N.Y., and the life lessons he received from his father.

In May, “Big Russ” also will come out as an e-book for the first time.

Tim Russert, the longtime political analyst and host of NBC’s “Meet the Press,” died in 2008 at age 58. Luke Russert is a correspondent for NBC News.
