Stabbing death brings five years of probation

YOUNGSTOWN

Tequlia Haskins, 28, was sentenced to five years probation this morning for the June stabbing death of her 28-year-old boyfriend Brian Tubbs in their Boardman home.

Haskins was sentenced in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court by Judge James C. Evans for a charge of voluntary manslaughter. She was originally charged with murder but entered a guilty plea to the amended charge Dec. 16.

Haskins detailed for Judge Evans severe physical abuse by Tubbs, who was stabbed after Haskins caught him in bed with another woman. Tubbs’ family members also asked Evans to give Haskins probation so she could raise the couple’s two children. Judge Evans said he has rarely had a defendant as remorseful as Haskins has been.
