Dominoes fall at library program

A Boardman library program allowed children the opportunity to use their imaginations with empty DVD cases.

A large section of the meeting room was cleared out Jan. 16, so participants had room for the project. Librarian Madeline Dunchak gave them each empty DVD cases to use like giant dominoes. The idea was to line them up and then tap the first case and watch them all fall.

Dunchak encouraged participants to try different shapes and patterns.

“You can make anything you want,” Dunchak told the children.

Nathan Hargrove lined his up in a long row, while Abbey Eash chose to make a large hook.

As the participants lined up the cases, they read the titles and discussed the movies with each other and Dunchak, noting which were good and those that weren’t so good.

When Eash was ready to push her DVD cases down, the others stood around and waited expectantly. She tapped the first one – and sure enough, they all fell down.

“I was kind of wondering if it would make it around that S or not, and it did,” Dunchak said. “She did a good job.”

Eash said it was fun.

Hargrove’s line of DVDs didn’t fair so well. A few fell and he’d tap the next and several would fall. The group realized he needed to line them up closer together.

The program ended with a snack.
