Boys track competed Feb. 9

The Boardman boys track team sent a handful of runners to the Mt. Union University High School Indoor Open Meet on Feb. 9. Highlighting the Spartan success was senior Justin Maroni who won the 3200-meter run in a time of 10:05. Also Maroni along with seniors Alan Burns and Jacob Kelleck and sophomore Adam Deeley won the 4 x 800 relay in a time of 8:41. Burns placed second in the 800 at 2:05 and senior Isaiah Lyle placed sixth in the 60-meter dash at 7.50 seconds.

BGMS girls fall to Howland

Boardman Glenwood’s seventh-grade girls dropped a tough game to Howland by a score of 29-17. Leading scorers were Kaylin Burkey (10), Cate Green (5) and Hannah Nawrocki (2). The girls are now 6-5. The eighth-grade girls (3-8) were also defeated by Howland. The Lady Spartans played relentless defense and were aggressive on the offensive end. Unfortunately, the Howland Tigers pulled away in the second half with a final score of 34-18. Leading the Spartans was Cassie Stitt with 13 points, nine of those points being three-pointers.

BGMS loses to Howland

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team lost at the buzzer to Howland by the score of 43-41. The team battled back from six points down to tie it at 41 on a three-pointer by Holden Lipke with 10 seconds left. The Spartans were led in scoring by Holden Lipke and Brian Terlesky with 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Antonio Page and Noah Falleti each had eight and Jarod Wilson had two. The Spartans are now 7-4 on the season.

The seventh-grade boys also lost to Howland, dropping their record to 6-5 on the season. Ryan Archey led the scoring with eight points and Che Trevena added six. Finishing the scoring was Zach Larrier and Nick Torres, who each scored four and Nikitas Missos scored one.

BGMS boys sweep Salem

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team beat Salem by the score of 45-30. The win improves the teams record to 8-4 during the regular season. Leading the team in scoring were Antonio Page (13), Holden Lipke (9), Noah Falleti (8) and Billy Cammack (6). Also scoring for the Spartans were Brian Terlesky with three and adding a bucket each were Jarod Wilson, JuJuante Young and Brad Boerio.

The BGMS seventh-grade boys also beat Salem with a total team effort 42-35. Che Trevena led the way with 13 points and Nick Torres added nine. Also scoring was Zach Larrier (6), Nikitas Missos (4), Manny Perez and Michael Fetsko each scored three and Ryan Archey and Shay Eicher finished with two points each. The boys improved to 7-5 on the year.

BGMS girls fall to Salem

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School seventh-grade girls lost a tough game in overtime to Salem 35-29. Leading scorers were Kaylin Burkey (16), Brooke Hoffman (6), Jenna Benko (4) and Kailee James (3). The BGMS eighth-grade girls ended their regular season with a loss to Salem. The game was close, but the Quakers made some last minute baskets to finally pull away. The team, who is now 3-9, lost 27-21.

It’s winter sports season.Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a winter sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages.

We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in. You can email us at neighbors@vindy.com. You don’t have to be a writer — just send us the information and we’ll put it all together. When emailing pictures, send them as JPEG files as large as possible.

Provide caption information and where people are located from left to right, front row to back. The sports news we’re looking for ranges from high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues.

And not just basketball – we want wrestling, bowling, swimming, gymnastics and hockey, too.
