POLAND

In an area with few bars, Poland now has a branch of a popular drinking and dining establishment that started out in Canfield a few years ago.

The Pour House Bar & Grill has expanded to a second location, which opened Dec. 8, in the township at 3131 Center Road.

“[There was] nothing out here. It just needed something out in this area,” owner John Berndt said of why he chose to bring his business to Poland. “Plus, I’ve lived in Poland all my life.”

Berndt opened the Pour House’s Canfield location, at 3620 Starrs Centre Drive, in Feb. 2012. He also owns Johnny’s Fine Food & Spirits on Market St. in Boardman.

The Pour House offers a wide variety of beer, with 45 options on tap. The selection includes a number of craft beers, such as Great Lakes and Fat Head’s, and many seasonal brews.

The bar has Happy Hour drink and food specials from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as daily food specials such as home-style entrees that are not on the regular menu, Berndt said.

Menu items include wings, nachos, sandwiches, salads, burgers and other bar-style foods.

As for the atmosphere, Berndt says it is the kind of place anyone can enjoy.

“It’s a great little place, a comfortable, relaxing place to hang out,” he said. “We invite all types of people. You can come in your work clothes.”

Berndt describes the bar’s theme as “rustic,” with wooden beams and siding, and tables made from 150-year-old oak. The Poland location also has 10 large-screen televisions, featuring NFL Sunday Ticket football games.

Berndt already is planning some improvements for the new venue.

“We’ll have a patio coming very soon outside that will seat about 60 people,” he said.
