Boys varsity topples Liberty

Despite an ugly shooting performance (23-64 from the field and 7-19 from the free throw line), the Boardman boys varsity basketball team managed to grind out a double overtime thriller against Liberty, winning 59-57. Freshman Holden Lipke led the team with 14 points, whuile Jon Mike Dana and Gannon Murray had 11 points each. Marcus Smith added 10 points and John Ryan chipped in with nine points.

BCMS seventh-grade boys defeat opponents

On Dec. 8, the Boardman Center Middle School seventh-grade boys basketball team defeated Austintown Blue with a score of 45-36. At the end of regulation, it was all tied up at 33. The game was then decided in overtime in which the Spartans shut down the Falcons while keeping them at three points in overtime and came out on top. On Dec. 12, the team moved to 2-0 on the season by winning on the road at Warren White. The Spartans started out on a 10-0 run to start the game. The final score was 50-28. Scorers for the night were Wrentie Martin (12), Derrick Anderson (11), Jimmy Goske (8), Charlie Davis (7), Griffin Schantz (6), and Tyler Peterson, Carmen Quattro and Hayden Lyda with two each.

BCMS boys beat Warren White

The Boardman Center Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team beat Warren White 51-39 on Dec. 10. Center was trailing 29-11 at halftime, but a 25 point third quarter gave Center a three point lead going into the final stanza. Bobby Cavalier, Cam Kreps and Eric Shrilla scored 19 of the team’s 25 points in the high scoring third quarter. Center limited Warren to 10 second half points. Cavalier led all scores with 17, including one 3-pointer. Cam Kreps had 12, and Eric Shrilla had eight, including two 3-bombs, while Luke Stauffer had four. Mikey Morris, Melvin Neail, Brandon Kuehn and Karim Hamdan added two points each. Tino Arcuri and Joe Ieraci each tacked on a free throw. Center improves to 2-0.

BGMS girls defeated by Warren

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team lost a hard fought game to Warren 26-23. Cate Green led all scorers with 13 points. Kailyn Burkey had seven points, while Brooke Hoffman had two and Ali Swavel added one.

BCMS toppled by AMS Blue

The Boardman Center Middle School girls eighth-grade girls basketball team dropped a close game to Austintown Middle School Blue 31-24. Kaia Anderson was high scorer with eight points, followed by Cailyn Covan and Ali Kuras each with four points.

BGMS boys lose to Warren Gold

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team opened its season Dec. 8 with a loss to Warren Gold. The team fought hard to battle back from a 17 point deficit in the second quarter to cut it to three points and eventually falling 38-34. The Spartans were led in scoring by Che Trevena with 15 points, Nick Torres with 10, Ryan Archey with five, Nikitas Missos with three and Michael Fetsko added a free throw.

BCMS boys basketball victorious

Boardman Center Middle School beat Austintown Middle School Blue 43-42 in their season’s opening game. Center fell behind 20-13 after the first period but battled back for the win. Center allowed 22 points over the next three quarters, including a four point fourth quarter. Joe Ieraci sparked the come back with two three-pointers and two keys steals. Ieraci finished with 11 points, followed by Bobby Cavalier’s 10. Luke Stauffer added eight and Cam Kreps had five. Brandon Kuehn and Mikey Morris each had four.

Boys basketball defeated by Harding

The Boardman boys varsity basketball team had great effort against the Warren G. Harding team on Dec. 5. They started out the game several turnovers, which allowed Harding to jump out to an early 17-3 lead. They battled for the next two and a half quarters, out scoring them in the second and third. In the fourth quarter, the Harding lead stretched to 20 points. The final score came to 68-48. Gannon Murray led the Spartans with 14 points, while Marcus Smith chipped in with eight points.

Basketball classic to take place in January

The eighth annual Boys Basketball Classic for fifth- and sixth-grade divisions will take place on Jan. 10, 11, 17 and 18. Teams have a four game guarantee. For more information, contact Doug Dawson at classicsports@zoominternet.net or 330-565-9372.
