YSU receives $1.8M for elevator work

COLUMBUS

The state Controlling Board released nearly $1.8 million Monday for continuing efforts to improve elevators at Youngstown State University.

The funds will pay for labor and equipment to replace and modernize elevators in DeBartolo, Ward Beecher and Tod halls and the Maag Library as well as for safety improvements to elevators in Bliss and Moser halls.

Most of the elevators in use at YSU were installed more than 25 years ago. According to documents, “This project is vital to ensuring the safety and security of students, employees and all others who visit the YSU campus.”

The panel also approved $3.1 million in grants to improve boating facilities around the state. The total includes $68,855 for a new launch ramp, parking area and access-drive extension at the Flats launch ramp on the Mahoning River in Trumbull County.
