Shepherd of the Valley to dispose of old flags

Friday, August 29, 2014

During the month of September, Shepherd of the Valley is taking in tired, torn and faded American flags that need to be retired.

Most flags are not retired and burned with the ceremony they deserve. Some are burned in a barrel; some in a pile on the ground; others are cremated at a funeral home. Shepherd of the Valley wants to change this. Flags can be dropped off at any Shepherd of the Valley community between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Drop-off hours for the corporate offices are 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Boardman location is at 7148 West Blvd and can be reached at 330-726-9061, the Howland location is at 4100 North River Road and can be reached at 330-856-9232, the Niles location is at 1500 McKinley Ave and can be reached at 330-544-0771, the Poland location is at 301 W. Western Reserve Road and can be reached at 330-726-7110 and the Corporate Office/At Home With Shepherd location is at 5525 Silica Road in Austintown and can be reached at 330-530-4038.

Flags will be delivered to a local veteran’s group for proper disposal.
