Mich. man takes grand prize for giant pumpkin

Mark Clementz of Holly, Mich., took the grand prize for his giant pumpkin that weighed in at 1,1241/2 pounds.

Neil Lanterman of Greenford took reserve champion for his 1,110-pound giant pumpkin.

The weigh-off took place Tuesday at the pumpkin barn on Youngstown Drive, where all the pumpkins are on display.

Guests can purchase giant- pumpkin seeds from the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers. Costs are five packs for $10, one pack for $3 and two packs for $5.

Faces of the Fair posters and postcards for sale

The sixth and final Faces of the Fair postcard and poster are for sale in the Fine Arts building on Austintown Drive near Canfield Drive. The photo montage uses photos taken at last year’s Canfield Fair to form a picture to show the fair. This year’s picture is a rooster, concessionaires and some rides.

Postcards are $1; an 8-by-10 poster is $5; a 16-by-20 poster is $30; and a 20-by-30 poster is $40.

Agency donates to Second Harvest

Area Agency on Aging 11 of Niles announced it would buy a hog at the Jr. 4-H livestock auction at the Canfield Fair at 7 p.m. today for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Dunk the pastor

You can “Dunk the Pastor” at the Touch Heaven Ministries tent from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today through Monday on Kohler Drive at the Canfield Fair. The booth also will feature free face painting. Donations will be accepted for the Touch Heaven ministry with children in Africa.

Auction/sale livestock can go to Second Harvest

A livestock purchase at the Canfield Fair livestock auction/sale in the 4-H coliseum, Building 8 can go toward Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for distribution to hungry families in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

The livestock available to donate to the food bank include market beef, hogs, poultry-broilers, turkeys, goats and lambs.

At 5:30 p.m. today, the auction/sale includes goat-milk fudge, market goats and market rabbits. At 5:30 p.m. Friday, market poultry — broilers and turkeys — will be up for auction/sale and at 7 p.m. market lambs and carcass lambs.

Livestock purchased for the food bank will be processed by Chamberlin Farms and Pleasant Valley Poultry. Processing fees will be added to the purchase price.
