Former Fitch standout Mahone walks on at YSU

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Former Austintown Fitch standout Will Mahone has walked on to the Youngstown State football team.

Mahone, who spent the past two years on Notre Dame's football team, was sentenced to 10 days in jail in July after pleading guilty to four misdemeanors: resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault and aggravated menacing.

Mahone was arrested by Austintown authorities at 11:10 p.m. June 14 after they responded to the intersection of Rita and Ray avenues for a fight. Once there, officers found an intoxicated and combative Mahone and had to use a stun gun on him twice to try to calm him down. He continually threatened officers and head-butted one in the face.

Mahone appeared in two games for the Irish last season as a slot receiver. He joined Youngstown State's football team on Monday, although he has not yet practiced.
