Write-in candidate

YOUNGSTOWN

David Allen Pastorius of Akron filed paperwork to be a write-in candidate in the 13th Congressional District race. Pastorius was the only person to file by Monday’s deadline to be a write-in candidate in any race in the Mahoning Valley.

The 13th District race pits U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, a Democrat from Howland, against Thomas Pekarek, a Republican from Cleveland who has unsuccessfully run for numerous offices.

Damage to field

YOUNGSTOWN

Two people were cited with criminal damaging after a pickup truck they were riding in got in stuck in a field at the former West Elementary School, 134 N. Hazelwood Ave., over the weekend.

Police were called there about 8:15 a.m. Sunday. Reports said Jessica Jack, 28, of Struthers and Dane Kirsch, 28, of Mahoning Avenue, told officers the truck had been stuck in the field since 11 p.m. Saturday.

Reports said Kirsch and Jack told the officer they were doing “doughnuts” in the field when they got stuck. Reports said there were several deep gashes in the field from tire tracks and the tires were at least 12 inches in the ground. The pair told officers they were “just being stupid.”

Reports said the field was heavily damaged. A tow truck managed to haul the truck out. Both were issued a citation and given a court date in municipal court.
