YOUNGSTOWN

Mayor John McNally met Wednesday with officials from the private prison where last week prisoners staged a protest, regarding proper notification procedures.

Under the city’s agreement with Corrections Corporations of America, the Nashville- based company that runs the prison on the city’s East Side, the city is to be notified immediately of any unusual events, McNally said. The police chief and law director also are to receive a written report within 24 hours, he said.

Although those steps weren’t followed last week, McNally said the company assured him proper steps will be followed should future events occur. The protest dealt with inmates’ issues with the quality of healthcare and

food at the facility, the mayor said.
