The National Safety Council’s Northern Ohio Chapter, Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St., Suite 343, is offering safety classes during May.

The courses are:

CPR/AED (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator Course), Adult/Child/Infant (two-year certificate): May 15, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Fee, $40.

First Aid (three-year certificate): May 15, 1 to 5 p.m.. Fee, $40.

Program planned on nutrition

LEETONIA

The Leetonia Community Public Library, 81 Walnut St., is offering a food and nutrition education program for families with children infant to 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, today through May 20.

The program teaches participants how to make healthier food choices, stretch food dollars, increase physical activity and food safety tips.

Participants receive incentives, food samplings and recipes.

New website

BOARDMAN

The Surgical Hospital at Southwoods has launched a new, patient-focused website.

Expanded from the earlier version, the new Southwoods site contains detailed information about the health-care services provided on its main campus as well as those ancillary services provided at satellite locations, says Ed Muransky, Southwoods’ chief executive officer.

Southwoods provides inpatient, outpatient, pain management, diagnostic radiology and sleep medicine services.

The website, which can be found by visiting www.southwoodshealth.com, provides patients with guidance about how to prepare for appointments at each facility, as well as contact information and directions to each location.

Bill Adams, director of Access Health Mahoning Valley, 418 Main Ave. SW, says there are several thousand people in Mahoning County still eligible to sign up for health insurance under Medicaid even though the March 31 deadline for the Affordable Care Act has passed.

Enrollment for Medicaid, a program jointly funded by the states and the federal government that reimburses hospitals and physicians for providing care to qualifying people who cannot finance their own medical expenses, is open year-round for adults 19 to 64.

Maximum annual incomes are: $16,105 for a one-person household; $21,707 for a two-person household; $27,310 for a three-person household; and $32,913 for a four-person household. Add $5,603 per each additional person.

Access Health Mahoning Valley has a trained navigator who can help people complete the online Medicaid application. Call 330-373-0703 for an appointment.
